MADD Canada (Durham Region Chapter) donates two Drager Alcotest Roadside Screening devices.

August 3 2001

Nancy Codlin, Chapter President, from MADD, presented to the Traffic Management Unit, Durham Regional Police Service, two Drager Alcotest Roadside Screening devices to screen drivers for alcohol consumption.

Each year, TMU investigates several off-road collisions where alcohol was a factor. The new roadside screening devices will assist officers in targeting those individuals who insist on operating their boats, bikes, atvs, and snowmobiles while drunk. MADD reminds those who do not associate drinking and driving and driving a motorized vehicle that the criminal code prohibits the operation of a "motorized vehicle" while impaired by alcohol or drug.

The two units, valued at approximately $2800.00 represents MADD's commitment to making Durham Region, a safer community to live, work, and play in. Police will use the devices in their marine and snowmobile programs. These devices will assist officers in screening operators who have been consuming alcohol.

Guests at the presentation were Nancy Codlin (Durham Region MADD President), Kevin McAlpine, (Chief, Durham Regional Police Services), Bob Boychyn (Police Chair), Mike Ennis (Inspector, Support Services), Tom Whiteway (OIC, Traffic Management), Mark Stone (Intoxilyzer Coordinator), D Morse (DRPS S.T.O.P.
