Three people are dead and several others were rescued after snowmobile accidents across Ontario this weekend.
Anthony Long, 38, was killed near Annan, north of Owen Sound, after his snowmobile left the road and struck some trees last night.
Police said alcohol, excessive speed and heavy snowfall were all likely factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
Earlier, Keith Welch, 14, died near Midland, in a snowmobile-related accident on a trail.
Police said a 16-year-old was driving a snowmobile that was towing a G-T Snowracer ridden by the younger teen Saturday afternoon.
During the tow, the younger boy lost control of the racer and was thrown into a wooden post, police said.
Another man died after his snowmobile hit a rock Saturday on Little Hawk Lake, about 100 km north of Peterborough.
Police did not release his name.
And finally, near Port Perry, a Durham Regional Police helicopter was used to direct rescuers to two men who broke through the ice while snowmobiling on Lake Scugog The chopper was called in after someone heard cries for help at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
